So after a successful surgery, I've decided that now seems as good a time as any to start playing Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age at long last. I've got four days or so of downtime/bedrest, a nice JRPG sounds like a good way to spend it.

Straight off I took a dislike to Basch. Now. To be clear I realize he's a deep, multifaceted character. But given that I'm sitting here with a blood soaked dressing over my naval that I have to constantly manage the pain levels on and just saw him stab a kid in the gut, all I can do is go, "Jerk move, buddy." I know I'll like him a lot more later on, but there's a little baggage I need to get through.

ALSO I like the Moorish style architecture going on here. I see all the lovely arches with stripe patterns and go "OH I KNOW THIS :3c"

After getting through the prison section, I thankfully warmed up a lot more to Basch. And since I reclassed him to Bushi made a lot of Dunban from Xenoblade parallels. And I'm happy to know he has an evil twin or a doppelganger or a time traveling version of himself that turned evil or something. (Look don't knock it, it happened to Robin!)

Currently I'm maining Fran. I like being at range and being able to fire off arrows, black, or white magic as the situation requires.

Also um... This game. It makes me happy. I'm hoping there's more than just All Deserts All The Time, but it has a lot of the things I like, and associate with Final Fantasy. Airships, magitek, evil(ish) empires, crystal mcguffins, all that good stuff.

I'm playing by the book so far. Van is shikari, Penelo is white mage, Balthier is machinist, Fran is archer, and Basch is bushi. Next stop is rescuing Penelo, after getting some monster hunting contracts done.
